Need To Stop Caring

This is gonna be abit of a personal one but there is some good advice (hopefully) in here as well, something I really need to focus on in 2017 is to stop caring! Stop caring what other people think, stop caring what people say. There is a famous quote from Deepak Chopra that’s says “What other people think of you is not your business. If you start to make that business your business, you will be offended for the rest of your life”. This is often shortened to just “what other people think of you is not your business” however I decided to go for the full quote because it’s so accurate.

So I have a habit of overthinking things, this is something I am very guilty, there are many problems with this but one of them is its makes me a little bit paranoid like something little such as my friends not inviting me out can snowball in my head until I think that they all hate me. This is why I chose the quote I did, if I stop caring and stop making it my business what people think of me then I will be a lot happier as it’s caring about things like that, that are the greatest cause of anger or sadness in my life.

This is something I am going to work on in 2017 to make myself a better happier person and to improve my life, as Jamie Alderton so elegantly put it “Stop giving a f*ck!” this is something he said on his Snapchat the other day on this topic, that’s how I found about the quote above. I feel this is something a lot of people would benefit from if they implemented it in their life, when someone is miserable or unhappy how often is it because of what someone said or did? It’s most the time, if that person stopped caring they would be much happier.

Look around you in life, notice how the happiest people tend to be the ones that don’t give a crap, this is no coincidence. They have made the conscious choice to stop caring what people say or think of them and they are much happier for it. For me personally I think this along with carrying on my attempt to be more positive and stop myself from overthinking things will greatly improve my happiness, I have noticed that it’s these things that tend to bother me and be the main source of my sadness, so I encourage you guys to give it a try as well.

Anyway before this one drags on I am going to end it here so I will leave you with this:

I apologise for my lack of blog posts this week, I have been doing ridiculous amounts of overtime at work, working retail at Christmas has completely wiped me out, I have been working basically every hour they can get me in and working ridiculously hard the entire time I have been there the past 2 weeks as well so I have not had time to get a blog post up till now, though normal schedule will be resumed next week.

Keep Your Integrity

Okay so this is going to be a quick one because I am in a massive rush today as I need to go to the dentist, I somehow managed to crack my tooth on a soft chewy sweet but that’s besides the point. Today I want to have a quick chat about keeping your integrity.

This is something that’s very important to do especially in business, see a lot of people get into business to make a quick buck and to make some quick money, this is a really bad practice in any business. When you become a ‘sell out’ and try to use your business to make quick money you lose the faith and trust of your customers.

Go for the long haul, get the trust of your clients and you will keep them forever, if you build a relationship with a client and offer them information or a service that is worth 5x what you are charging they will come back forever and once you have gained that relationship they will pay higher prices just because they trust you and know you will deliver high quality.

I have recently been listening and reading a lot of Jamie Alderton’s (GrenadeJay) book and Snapchat stories, he is brilliant and if you are into fitness or starting a business I highly recommend him, he warned he’s an ex British soldier so he tells it how it is and definitely doesn’t mince his words. He says that you should give people free content to get them interested in you and get it in their minds that you are the expert and you know what you are talking about and then when you offer your services make sure it is 5x more valuable to them than you are charging, for example when he recently did a seminar day he charged like just under 400 quid and he justified this saying if you followed his advice in your business you’d make that money back in a week.

Offer great value for money but DON’T undersell yourself, know how much your time and expertise is worth. I am in a big rush so I have to leave this one here, I will touch on this again soon and go into more detail so it’s easier to understand what I mean, but for now I will leave you with this:

Making Small Changes For Big Improvements!

Gooooood Morning Vietnam! Sorry I really had the urge to do that today, been watching Supernatural recently and that film quote is referenced in one of the episodes, yeah anyway on to today’s topic…. Making small changes for big improvements.

That’s quite a good title isn’t it? I actually impressed myself when I thought of that one but it’s very accurate, making small adjustments and changes can lead to a big improvement overall. This is true for many, many things in life. For example if you are training trying to build muscle, little things like adjusting your form can make a huge difference in gains in the long term.

Take me for example, I have recently bought some ‘Nutri Greens Plus’ powder from MyProtein (Disclaimer: Not sponsored, I have just been recommended them in the past), this stuff contains 35 superfood extracts and is a natural source of 3 essential vitamins. I did this because I want to improve my health and make an effort to be healthier, not to mention I have heard people say that these green powders make them feel like they function better and can think more clearly, this is why I will soon be taking some multi-vitamins and fish oil tablets as well. It is small changes like these that build up and make massive differences over time.

I’m not against going all out and completely changing your life whether it be in fitness or health or business but it is much easier and you much more likely to continue with something if you make small changes at a time. These little things add up, let’s say you would like to learn how to do something like, I don’t know, let’s say you want to learn how to speak french, you wouldn’t go buy a language learning course and try to learn the whole thing in one day, it would be too much for you brain to handle, you would do a little bit every day till it sunk in.

Maybe you want to write a book but you always put it off because you can’t be bothered or seem to not find the time, if you get up and spend 20/30 minutes writing while you are eating your breakfast or spend half an hour writing before you go to bed or on your lunch break at work, come a few weeks/months down the line, you will have written your book.

A lot of the time it is all about taking baby steps or just doing a little bit hear and there, this is also great if you want to get a big task done, just add in into your daily regimen and spend a little bit of time doing it every single day. Even for fitness, if you want to get more fit, just go for a brisk walk for 20 mins every day, maybe a bit longer depending on your current fitness level, but little things like this all add up to make a big difference in the long term.

Find Your Motivation

Okay! So first off I apologise for not posting on Tuesday, I have been incredibly busy with college work and my retail job for the past week so I never actually got round to writing one, I won’t let it happen again!

Anyways onto today’s topic, finding your motivation. This is possibly the most important thing you can possibly do when you are trying to reach a fitness goal or trying to start up a new business. I have been listening to a lot of business and productivity podcasts recently and on one of them they had a guest on who has created and owns 8 successful businesses.

Side note if you are interested in starting up a business then podcasts are amazing to listen to, they give you a lot of information and can really give you so much motivation and lessons that it has taken these people years to learn.

Back on track, this woman who owns these 8 successful businesses and the podcast host were talking about how important it is to find your motivation, find out why you are doing what you are doing, for example if you are creating a business then why do you want to do it? Is it to be rich, to be able to spend more time with your family, to travel, etc. This is very important because you are going to come on hard times when you are struggling and that might just be the only thing that pushes you through.

Also you need to always remember why you are doing this, why you are putting in all that hard work, if you started your own business so you could escape the 9-5 rat race and spend more time with your family then you are not going to be happy when you’re working 18 hour days running a successful business. Do you get what I mean? Obviously you need to put in a lot of hard work to create a business, you need to put in a lot of hard work to do anything that’s worth doing, but my point is when that business is successful you won’t be satisfied and happy because you are spending all your time working and you are not spending that time with your family like you want to, so you need to adjust your strategy to ensure that you are doing that.

I hope you get what I mean with that, the reason I bring this up is because I realised the other day that I want to work for myself because I hate the thought of working for someone else, I will never be happy while I am working for someone. This made me realise my own biggest motivation is my retail job, I really don’t like it, you are just a number, you work your arse off and get peanuts in return most of the time not even with a thank you. This is my greatest motivation with wanting to become a personal trainer and hopefully a successful blogger so I can leave that job and do something I truly enjoy.

My gosh this one is getting long so I will leave you with this:

Positive Thinking

Okay so in pursuit of my new goal of being more positive and being happier I have dug out some books that I bought years ago, one that I am currently reading is called ‘Mind Power’ by James Borg (very good book by the way) which is a self help book revolving around taking control of your mind and your thoughts. In this book he states something that has been cropping up a lot on my Instagram just recently since I’ve been adding lots of motivational and inspirational pages, you control your thoughts and your thoughts control your emotions, nothing is ever really good or bad unless you think it to be.

Let me explain, okay so in this book he says try to make yourself sad without thinking of something sad, try to be angry without thinking of something that annoys you. You can’t do it can you? How we think directly influences how we feel, it’s kind of like a glass half full, glass half empty sort of thing, how you view and think of that glass decides whether you’re optimistic, you look for the good and put a positive spin on things, or whether you are a pessimist, always looking at things negatively and making yourself miserable.

My point is how you think about things can greatly influence how you feel, it might not change the outcome if you view something more positively but you might look at it as a learning experience as oppose to something to get down and beat yourself up about. That being said when you look at things negatively I know from experience that you tend to create a self fulfilling prophesy, you set yourself up to fail, you set it up to go wrong.

Negative thoughts can be very toxic to you,in some way quite literally, as described in that book, when you think negatively your brain releases hormones and chemicals that make you feel crap which in turn makes you be even more negative and so on, you can see how this can become a downward spiral. However the same happens when you are happy and positive, your brain releases different hormones and chemicals that make you feel even better.

Anyway I should probably stop ripping information straight from the book, if you’re interested its a good book to buy or possibly find in your local library, also not sponsored to say that I should probably point out. It’s just a good informative book.

What i’m getting at is how you think has a massive effect on your life, it will be hard to change and it will take time and effort but you are in control of your thoughts, they don’t control you therefore with persistence and commitment you can change your thinking and it will change you life, I guarantee you it will. Obviously you won’t be happy and positive all the time but the more you are the happier you will become and when you are being positive and think optimistically opportunities tend to just appear out of nowhere instead of passing you by.

I should probably leave that one there as this is getting long and I don’t want to go off on a tangent so I shall leave you with this..

How To Get Stuff Done!

Okay so if you are like me then you will probably spend ages thinking about all the stuff that you want to do, probably watch loads of YouTube videos all about how to get motivated, perhaps you even get all prepared for doing whatever it is you set out to do but where most people fall flat is actually getting it done.
The worst part of this is it is incredibly easy to do it, just start! That’s all you have to do! People are always saying they’re going to do this and that, but very few of them actually start it. Spending hours watching motivational videos is all well and good but it gets to the point where you are just wasting time and procrastinating, stop wasting so much damn time and just start and get on with it.
If you want to accomplish something WRITE IT DOWN! I cannot stress that enough, write down your goals, make a list of what you want to achieve both long term and short term like what you want to do today, trust me this will make a world of difference! When you see it written down on paper you will be much more likely to achieve them.
I was watching a video yesterday in research of this and the advice this guy gave was to make a list of what success means to you, write a whole A4 page of what success means to you, but do it writing in the present as if you were already successful, make a huge list of what you would do today if you were successful i.e. I will sleep in, I’ll go down the golf course with my friends then take a trip to London in my brand new Ferrari to go watch a show… That sort of thing. This will help motivate you and make you realise your dream, but as I said you need to actually start to get stuff done.
Something I should note is while at first it may be hard to just do stuff, if you start writing it down and then over time it will get a lot easier, also tell people about your goals, as I’ve said before if you tell people about your goals then you are more likely to achieve them because you do not wish to look like an idiot so will work harder to achieve it. On that note when setting goals the most important thing to do is to SET A DATE! Setting a deadline for you goals like want to do this today, want to have achieved this by January etc. You are much more likely to crack on with it and less likely to keep putting it off.
If you would like to stay motivated, the best thing you can do is constantly remind yourself why you are doing what you are doing, for example every single morning write down what you think success is (like as mentioned early), if you do this every morning you will feel motivated to crack on with all your jobs for the day. All that is important is you know every single day what you are working for and why you are doing it.
So an overview:
 – Write down what you think success is (be as vivid and detailed as possible).
  – Write down your goals! (Use dates and deadlines so you have a target).
  – If you watch motivational videos then don’t spend hours doing it.
  – Just get on with it, just start!
Told you I was going to make a schedule and make a change! Might have to decrease it to one post a week at some point otherwise I’ll run out of content but we shall see. The Plan

Okay I am getting very bad at frequently blogging, not that I’ve actually ever been good at it but even so following recent events I’ve decided to make some serious changes. I’m telling you this for two reason;
One – It has been scientifically proven that if you tell people you’re going to do something you are more likely to do it because you don’t want to make yourself look like an idiot.
Two – This change will effect you as I will be putting out more content on both my blog and my YouTube, I also hope that some of you will be influenced/motivated by my change and take this journey.

So what are the changes? Well firstly I’m going to be more positive and be a much more upbeat person (though I might still have a rant section on my blog, not sure yet), as you no doubt will have noticed if you read my blog, I’m quite cynical and negative. This has lead to a big argument with one of my closest friends, in short they stated they’re fed up of negative attitude. The fact that it got to that point means I need to change if I want to keep them as a friend.

Secondly, I’m tired of being lazy and achieving nothing, I mean I’m 21 years old, still studying at college (doing a course I hate), I’ve not completed a full college course yet since I’ve left school, I still live with my parents and I have nothing like a car or place of my own to put to my name. I’m fed up of this and I want to change it, I want to be successful. I want to make something of my life, I’m tired of working in retail and don’t want to spend the rest of my life working to death doing crap jobs for peanuts.

I realise that last paragraph makes me sound very money orientated, I’m not actually that bothered about the money but it is something that shows you’ve been successful and it’s needed (to some degree anyway) to make a better life like moving out and getting a car etc.

I dream of doing something I enjoy for a living, not having to worry about paying my bills every month. I want to have my own place, my own car and just being happy. Which is far from where I am at the moment.

So what do I do? Carry on my current path and be miserable or change my habits, work my arse off on my own things and make a better life for myself? Really no contest is it!

From now on I pledge I’m going to make use of all my free time, I am going to:

  • Add a new blog post every Tuesday & Friday (or at the very least every Friday depending on how much content I can think of).
  • Organise my content for my blog.
  • Upload a YouTube video at least every Saturday.
  • Consider starting an Instagram around motivation or fitness.
  • Study game development when I get chance.
  • In September I am going to be doing a personal training course thus allowing me to do something I actually want to do.
  • Be more positive.
  • Set weekly, monthly and yearly goals which I will update you about so I feel obliged to stick to them
  • And Finally just work hard to change my life.
